Tony Oliva, Captain Spider, and Julio Bequer at the Roosters Classic 2004Captain Spider Web Designs was proud to sponsor Tony Oliva's visit to the Olmsted History Center for the Roosters Classic - A Vintage Base Ball Festival & Tournament on July 10 - 11, 2004! Tony Oliva and special guest Julio Becquer were signing autographs and visiting with vintage baseball players and fans on Saturday. We collected nearly a 100 signatures for the Tony Oliva Baseball Hall of Fame petition! If you didn’t make it out to the Festival and would like to sign the petition you can visit the online version at www.CaptainSpider.com and click on the picture of Tony Oliva.

As a fan of the Minnesota Twins dating back to the early 1970's I was happy to see one of the Twins all time favorite players visit Rochester. Tony retired with 1,917 hits a .304 career average. He is the only player to win batting titles in his first two seasons.

I was never privileged to see Julio play ball for the Twins. Julio played for the Twins when they were the Washington Senators, moving with the club to Minnesota in 1961. He scored his last run of his career in 1963 as a Minnesota Twin.
